Blowfish Concert Series Team

POSITION: Internship or Volunteer Position (unpaid, college credit available)

DATES: March 1 - November 30, 2012

COMMITMENT: Flexible Hours (will increase during October, 2012)

JOB DESCRIPTION: The San Diego Asian Film Foundation is seeking creative, outgoing, and responsible team members to assist with the planning and execution of the Annual San Diego Asian Film Festival Concert Series, BLOWFISH. Team members will work throughout the year on event logistics, entertainment, venue, marketing, fundraising, and music video program, with the ultimate result being the annual Festival Party. Team members may also be asked to assist in the logistics of musical entertainment for special events throughout the duration of the Film Festival. Selected candidates will work in direct contact with Executive Director, Marketing and Public Relations Director, and Festival Special Events Team.

ABOUT THE EVENT: BLOWFISH is the annual San Diego Asian Film Festival concert party which typically combines live performances, music videos, and dancing. The core of the event is the celebration of live performance, music, and film. Since beginning in 2006, BLOWFISH has evolved over the years playing host to some of the best in the Asian Pacific American independent music scene including Far East Movement, Blue Scholars, Mike Relm, Lyrics Born, DJ Icy Ice, Kero One, and many more. It’s also been held at various locations throughout San Diego County including clubs in downtown, concert venues in Mission Beach, Hotel Patios, and empty warehouses.

BENEFITS: This position offers a unique opportunity to experience an exciting film and cultural event while working for one of the Largest Pan Asian Film Festivals in North America. The BLOWFISH Music Team will get hands on experience with event planning, entertainment, and grass roots marketing. They’ll also have the opportunity to build relationships with Award Winning Musical Entertainment, Filmmakers, as well as some of the best venues in San Diego County. Those selected will also have the opportunity to be educated on the Asian Film industry and will build knowledge throughout the year watching important and meaningful works of Pan Asian Cinema.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS: An ideal candidate would possess the following skills and traits:

  • Strong Communication Skills (written and verbal)
  • Strong Organizational Skills
  • Strong Knowledge of the Asian American Independent Music Scene
  • Strong Knowledge of the San Diego Club and Music Scene
  • Highly Self Motivated
  • Ability to Work as a Leader and as a part of a Larger Team
  • Reliable Transportation Around San Diego
  • Foreign Language Skills a Plus
  • San Diego Asian Film Foundation Volunteer Experience a Plus
  • Fundraising Skills a Plus
