FESTIVAL FAQ
-
What are the dates and location of your Festival?
October 21-28, 2010. Most programs take place at the Hazard Center UltraStar Cinemas in Mission Valley.
-
I’ve never been to the Asian film festival. Will I understand the films?
Of course! With hundreds of languages and dialects in the Asian diaspora , our common language is English,
so any foreign film will have English subtitles. The majority of our films however, are in English.
-
I’ve never been to ANY film festival. Where do I start?
We have a HOW TO FESTIVAL section that gives tips on how to build and maximize your Festival experience.
But one way to start right now is clear your schedule during our festival dates. Even if you live in San Diego,
we have many attendees build their vacation schedules around the Festival because there’s so much to see and do.
-
What kind of “Asian” films do you show?
We premiere films that are made, by, or about persons of Asian descent. We also screen films that have no Asian
content, but are directed or principally acted by a person of Asian descent. So don’t expect a kung fu festival
(although we do have martial arts films). We screen everything from arthouse indie films to international blockbusters,
short films, animation, and wonderful documentaries.
-
Do I need to a special pass or be a member to attend the Festival?
The festival is open to public. For most programs, you will need to purchase a ticket online or at the box office.
If you want to see a handful of films, we suggest you purchase a 4-Pack or 10-Pack. The best way to experience the
Festival, however, is to become a member and purchase an All-Festival Pass. This pass gives you front-of-line,
unlimited access to all programs.
-
How much are tickets?
General admission online is $7.50, or $9.50 if you purchase at the box office. If you purchase a 4-pack or 10-pack
of tickets, the cost per ticket goes down. Tickets to our opening and closing night films cost $14 online and $15
at the door because they are special events that include the cost of a reception. For our Ticketing FAQ, click here
-
Will I get to meet filmmakers and celebrities?
Yes! That’s one of the biggest perks in attending a film festival – meeting the artists behind the films.
We do our best to invite and host filmmakers, actors, and other artists their film screenings for Q&A sessions.
If we know someone is coming, we will note "director/cast/crew in attendance" within the web descriptions
of each program.
-
Where can I get a Festival program booklet or schedule?
You can read detailed descriptions of each film, watch trailers, and build your own schedule right now on
our Festival website. Our printed foldout schedules are available at the following locations starting
September 10:
- UltraStar Cinemas @ Hazard Center
- Yogurtland Mission Valley @ Hazard Center
- Gami Sushi Restaurant, Carmel Valley
Our program booklet will be available at the UltraStar during the days of the festival, but you can
also see it online on our Festival Website starting October 8.
