San Diego Asian Film Foundation

Dear SDAFF friends,

Spring is right almost here, and what better way to warm up than with good film, friends and family! We know everyone's feeling the financial crunch, so we have a few "recession-buster" film screenings (aka FREE) coming up. And check out our friends at Go Inspire Go focusing on positive stories online! (They just posted an archived report about us - yay!!!)

Plus, we're offering great incentives to become a member of the San Diego Asian Film Foundation (discounted food, spa, etc.) including an exclusive invitation to see the Japanese film, "Departures" (2009 Academy Award winner for Best Foreign Film) before anyone else in SD!

And of course, we appreciate you forwarding this eNewsletter to any friends, co-workers, and family who may not already be subscribed. Hope to see you at one our many events in the next two months starting with...

SDAFF video on Go Inspire Go!

If you're as sick as we are of all the negativity in the world, then you need to check out a movement started by our good friend, Toan Lam, who launched Go Inspire Go! It's a multi-media platform for people to share stories of inspiration and encourage people to take action. Toan even uploaded an archived report from our 2006 video.

Reel Voices High School deadline, what's the date?

This is just a friendly reminder that the application deadline for Reel Voices, a high school documentary film program, is quickly approaching. Deadline is Friday, April 24. Since 2004, we've trained nearly 40 local teenagers to become filmmakers. And this year, we're teaming up with ARTS (A Reason to Survive) to present this paid summer internship, open to all SD County high school students.

For application and previous RV films, click here.

  SDAFF early submission deadline

The SDAFF early film submission deadline is quickly approaching, too. Spread the word to your friends and family! We are looking for the best in Asian American cinema. All films entered into competition this year are eligible for the minimum $1000 Jury Prize!
Early Deadline: April 30, 2009
Final Deadline: June 10, 2009

Los Angeles Asian Pacific Film Festival PSA Contest

Our friends at the Los Angeles Asian Pacific Film Festival are looking for original, 30-second PSAs to raise awareness about Hepatitis B, a life-threatening liver disease affecting 1 in 10 Asian Pacific Islanders. Cash prizes will be awarded for the Grand prize and Community Response Award winners. Deadline is Friday, April 10.

  Water Conservation PSA Contest

Looks like PSA contests are all the rage! Another one - this one is with the City of San Diego, and the contest is about water conservation. This contest, open to high school and college students, invites participants to create a 30-second PSA that emphasizes responsible use of water. The deadline is next Wednesday, April 1, but they may push it back! Prizes include free SDAFF tickets.
