The tension has never been higher: very quickly in TAKE ME HOME, one realizes that this is a family that runs on a unique yet delicate balance. They make it work, awesomely so, but something may give, and it does.

TAKE ME HOME follows Anna, a 38-year-old Korean adoptee with cognitive disabilities, living with her aging parents as they devise a set of creative routines for mutual caregiving. When the Florida heat wave brings the unexpected, Anna and her family face new challenges, all while Anna’s father grapples with increasing signs of dementia and her loving sister communicates from across the continent. Filmmaker Liz Sargent embraces the precious vulnerability at the heart of our existence: we love so deeply that it sometimes hurts.

Born out of Sargent’s own intimate experience with adoption, caregiving, and disabilities, the film is as much an artistic reflection as an activist practice of filmmaking to pioneer a more caring world. Anna is played by Anna Sargent, the director’s sister, supported by an integrated team of anti-ableist professionals, including an on-set caregiver and accessibility producer. With beaming love and creativity, the film is a potent call to reflect on an unjust system in which people live with limited resources to meet basic needs; at the same time, Liz Sargent takes our hand to collectively imagine a utopia in flesh and color.
