You & Me & Me

เธอกับฉันกับฉัน

Directed by Wanweaw Hongvivatana, Weawwan Hongvivatana

Cast: Anthony Buisseret, Thitiya Jirapornsilp

Official Selection, 2023 Osaka Asian Film Festival

The apocalyptic chaos of Y2K shrinks in comparison to the tumult of adolescence.

It’s 1999, and sisters You and Me (both played by Thitiya Jirapornsilp) have perfected their lives as identical twins. Partners-in-birth and partners-in-crime, the pair exploit their genetic similarities every opportunity they get. Flirting with boys, cheating on tests – mistaken identity has become their superpower. In the face of their father’s infidelity and Y2K threatening, well, everything, the girls find solace in shenanigans, comforted by their inseparable bond.

But things get complicated when Me takes a test for her sister, and inadvertently falls for the handsome musician Mark (Anthony Buisseret). And while it’s Me who helps Mark cheat, Mark thinks he’s crushing on You. When all three of them coincidentally spend the summer together, each sister wants Mark for herself, while Mark can’t figure out which girl is making his heart flutter. Used to sharing everything, the sanctity of the twins’ sisterhood is threatened by their shared romantic interest. With the tension of their love triangle and the looming separation of their parents, the two sisters confront their codependency and individuality as they navigate the intensity of first loves and the world’s uncertain future.

In YOU & ME & ME, Thai twin filmmakers Wanweaw and Weawwan Hongvivatana deconstruct the fantasy of having an identical twin, particularly within the world-ending, identity-altering rollercoaster of adolescence.
