Who to call out for delayed and obstructed justice?
After the 2010 violent military crackdown of pro-democracy protestors in Bangkok, the victims’ family members are still seeking answers and accountability. Blurring documentary and fiction, director Anocha Suwichakornpong’s NARRATIVE gathers the family members for a workshop that functions as a support group, an emotional rehearsal, a judicial consult, a powerful memorial, and a somber call to the long-winded process of seeking justice.
Underneath the daily painful, angry, numb, and bittersweet waves of commemoration, the film presents a mosaic of personal testimonies that ask how documentary and justice work with the emotional unease after a massacre. When there is no one to directly call out for the injustice, what can the victims actually do? How do they continue the difficult work of seeking justice, when their own voice and pain is constantly buried and neglected?

Local Sensations

A loose, playful dialogue with Chatri Prakitnonthakan’s essay, How to Design a Modern Monument That Won’t Become a Shrine. An invitation to reconsider what “locality” and “monumentality” might mean, and how close they are to us.
