The 23rd San Diego Asian Film Festival’s Closing Night Film, Riceboy Sleeps Makes Its West Coast Premiere on Nov 11, 2022
The film is an intimate and beautiful portrait of an immigrant family, navigating identity and relationships.

WHAT:
Pacific Arts Movement (Pac Arts) presents the 23rd Annual San Diego Asian Film Festival (SDAFF) from November 3 – 12, 2022 , the most comprehensive portrait of Asian and Asian American cinema in North America. The festival is back in-theaters at the UltraStar Mission Valley with additional screenings at the San Diego Natural History Museum, Museum of Photographic Arts in Balboa Park, and the UCSD Price Center Theater in La Jolla.

The festival will close on November 11 with the brand new drama Riceboy Sleeps , which just premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival this September. The story of a Korean single mother raising her son in 1990s Vancouver, RICEBOY SLEEPS is a tender drama about love and sacrifice, and brings forth a beautiful, unreplicable youthfulness.

WHY:
Riceboy Sleeps is an intimate and beautiful film filled with love, struggle, and healing. The healing story of a strong young mother as she navigates a new country and of her son who struggles with his identity living in two worlds. The film captures the powerful mindset many immigrants have while dealing with the hardships of being different and having to maintain two identities. The two must face even more unprecedented struggles while healing from their past. The movie portrays a very common but underrepresented immigrant story, connecting audience members who have experienced the hardships of moving to a new country. This movie recognizes and acknowledges all that mothers have done for their children to have a better life while healing the bitter and sad feelings from within through breathtaking shots and closure.
