April 25: A Foggy Tale Screens at the San Diego Asian Film Festival Spring Showcase
The film is a moving portrait of ordinary people navigating loss and survival in a time of political turmoil.
WHAT:
Pacific Arts Movement (Pac Arts) presents the 15th Annual San Diego Asian Film Festival (SDAFF) Spring Showcase from April 24 – 26, 2026 , the most comprehensive portrait of Asian and Asian American cinema in North America. The festival is back in-theaters at the UltraStar Mission Valley.
The festival will feature a new Taiwanese drama A Foggy Tale, directed by Chen Yu-Hsun (My Missing Valentine), on April 25, which just premiered at the Hong Kong International Film Festival this April. A Foggy Tale is a drama about loss and courage, revealing human connections in a turbulent time. It follows a young woman searching for her brother’s body amid unrest. The brother is portrayed by Tseng Jing-Hua, winner of Best Supporting Actor at the 62nd Golden Horse Awards and best known for Your Name Engraved Herein.
WHY:
A Foggy Tale is set during a real and chaotic period in Taiwan’s history. After Yue’s brother is shot, she travels to Taipei to claim his body. Along the way, she meets a cart driver and her long-lost sister. They help her recover her brother’s body, forming unexpected bonds of solidarity in a time of chaos. The film captures the warmth of human connection among strangers brought together by hardship. A line from Yue’s brother, “We have nothing. Bravery is all we have,” runs throughout the film, anchoring its emotional core. Through the stories of these ordinary individuals, the film paints a deeply painful portrait of a turbulent era.
