Little Red Sweet

紅豆

Directed by Vincent Chow

Cast: Simon Yam, Stephy Tang, Jeffrey Ngai

North American Premiere

For May, a new life is about to take flight. After becoming a flight attendant, May (Stephy Tang) dreams of finally starting a life away from her family and their humble shop selling dessert soups. With a stubborn and critical father (Simon Yam) and a brother (Jeffrey Ngai) addicted to video games, her mother (Mimi Kung) and household matriarch is May’s only ally. It is also her mother who brings a special sweetness to family life and the soups they sell. But May’s plans become derailed when her mother’s health takes a turn for the worse, and the family dessert shop begins to struggle in her absence.

Set on protecting the family’s legacy, May tries to fill her mother’s role in the household and the family business – at the cost of her own dream. Facing the objections of her father, the romantic pursuit of a writer (Kevin Chu), and societal changes in Hong Kong, May must perfect the recipe to a sweet, satisfying life, finding balance between family, love and tradition.

LITTLE RED SWEET is a triumph, satisfying the sweet tooth with a star-studded cast celebrating the community-defining small businesses of Hong Kong and the families behind them that preserve Hong Kong’s cultural legacy.
