April 28, 2026
Congratulations to A Foggy Tale for winning the 15th SDAFF Spring Showcase’s Audience Award. In a notable shift, the film breaks a years-long run of documentary winners, emerging as the first narrative feature to claim the Audience Award in recent history.
Previous Spring Showcase winners include documentaries Between Goodbyes (2025), Ashima (2024), Finding Her Beat (2023), Free Chol Soo Lee (2022), Try Harder! (2021), Minding the Gap (2018), Abacus: Small Enough to Jail (2017), The Music of Strangers: Yo-Yo Ma and the Silk Road Ensemble (2016), To Be Takei (2014), and Harana (2013).
This screening was supported by the Center for Taiwan Studies – UC San Diego, Taiwanese American Community Center (TACC), Formosan Association for Public Affairs – San Diego Chapter (FAPA CA-SD), and the Taiwanese Cultural Association of San Diego (SDTCA).
About the film: First Yue finds that her idealistic brother has been executed. Now she’s tasked with trekking to Taipei to collect his body – a task more treacherous and expensive than imagined, setting off a heart-stirring, fairy-tale adventure of determination, guile, and coming-of-age in a repressive society.
