In Mari Walker’s SEE YOU THEN, a reunion of two exes after over a decade of silence becomes a walking exploration of the choices they’ve made and the regrets that simmer just below the surface.

Naomi (SDAFF favorite Lynn Chen) is an art professor struggling to reignite her creative spark, while increasingly unfulfilled by the trappings of marriage and motherhood. Kris (Pooya Mohseni) is the past love who suddenly broke things off and then transitioned to life as a trans woman. The crux of their re-encounter is clasped by tough questions of identity and survival, departure and return. But most importantly, the two are forced to reckon with the co-mingled pleasure and pain of their shared past, especially as what they discover over the course of the night no longer aligns with what they believed to be the truth.

Featuring deft nocturnal camerawork and finely-tuned performances, SEE YOU THEN ultimately reveals that in the midst of all the banal chatter in our lives, we should make time to have a conversation—to begin the work of being honest and vulnerable and to really, truly listen.
