Blind Love

失明

Directed by Julian Chou

Cast: Ariel Lin, Wu Ke-xi, Jimmy Liu, Frederick Lee

Official Selection, 2025 International Film Festival Rotterdam

Shu-yi (Ariel Lin) appears to lead an enviable life. Her husband is a rising star on his way to becoming the president of a hospital. Her teenage son (Jim Liu, Disney’s American Born Chinese) is a gifted Go player, and her younger son is an inquisitive child just beginning to explore the world. However, when she unexpectedly reconnects with a former liaison (Ke-xi Wu, Blue Sun Palace), her seemingly perfect world begins to unravel. Their reunion forces Shu-yi to confront her long-buried past, threatening to destroy everything she has achieved.

BLIND LOVE is a poignant portrait of a woman who begins to dismantle the carefully constructed life she was told to desire. What unfolds is a quietly radical journey of emotional awakening and subtle rebellion against deeply ingrained patriarchal expectations. Director Mei-Yu Chou meditates on how societal order can entrap one’s fidelity to their true self, offering a daring yet empathetic exploration of identity, love, and personal truth. Anchored by bold storytelling and layered performances, the film broadens the emotional scope of contemporary melodrama through a non-judgmental lens on choices and their consequences.
