Years after his three-night voyage fleeing North Korea, Cheol-jun has settled into a new life in Seoul–bonding with fellow defectors, working at a convenience store, preparing for university entrance–except Cheol-jun must also hide his queer sexuality everyday. Increasingly isolated and desperate to explore this part of his identity, Cheol-jun jumps into uncharted waters: Seoul’s gay technicolor nightlife.

At the deep end of the scene, Cheol-jun befriends Yeong-jun, who introduces him to a lively social circle and the freeness of Jong-no’s gay bars where Cheol-jun quickly becomes a hot commodity as the handsome North Korean top. From shared crushes, studying for exams, smoking cigarettes to singing karaoke, Yeong-jun has finally found someone he can confide in completely. However, this newfound attention, the stress of keeping his two worlds apart, and the financial burdens of his fellow defectors strain his friendships, leaving Cheol-jun adrift.

In his debut feature, Park Joonho creates a narrative about the profound impact of queer community and authentic connection for 3670’s North Korean, baby gay outcast. Juxtaposing the social and emotional struggles of defectors resettling in South Korea with the eccentric yet competitive gay scene, Park finds sweetness in friendship amidst changing scenes and starting anew.
